Pittsburgh has a lot of great Doulas.
So why choose me?
Simply put, because I love this work, I've dedicated my life to Reproductive Healthcare & Justice, and I have a combination of skills, talents, & education that are truly unique. From Doula, Midwife Assistant, & Community Health Advocate trainings, to education & self study in reproductive health, historical herbalism, & activism, and certifications in Lactation Counseling, BLS/CPR, Neonatal Resuscitation, ServSafe, & OSHA BBP; you can trust that I am qualified to guide & support you in all situations.
I started my journey in birthwork more than 6 years ago & have assisted individuals & families in New York, New Jersey, & now Pennsylvania. First training with the toLabor organization (formerly ALACE) as a Doula in the Summer of 2013, learning the art of Placenta Encapsulation the following summer, becoming a Certified Lactation Counselor in the Spring of 2018, & training as a Homebirth Midwife Assistant with Steel City Midwives & Amethyst Midwitchery & Womancraft in the Summer of 2018.
Prior to all this I studied Nursing, Women & Gender Studies, Journalism/Creative Writing, & Psychology at colleges in PA & NY, & managed a Gynecologist office just outside New York City along the historic Hudson River, where I was mentored in all aspects of Reproductive Healthcare.
I believe all people deserve respect, education, advocacy, & compassion through the life changing events of pregnancy, birth, & postpartum, regardless of their method or outcome, sexual & gender identities, race, religion, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status. I believe in evidence-based practice & its importance to my work, but I also believe we must be culturally humble, & respectful of traditions that science has disregarded through patriarchy, sexism, & racism. Because of this commitment, I currently mentor with Chicago's HealthConnect One Birth Equity Leadership Academy (BELA), supporting grass roots projects in improving birth equity across the country, & I am also a Community Health Advocate with Healthy Start Pittsburgh.
